The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme has once again been recognised as the best for its innovative use of social media.

The scheme, which is run by the NHS Leadership Academy, won the ‘best use of a social media platform in a graduate recruitment campaign’ award at the national Graduate Recruitment Social Media Conference Awards.

The scheme beat off stiff competition from other recruiters such as Accenture, Arcadia, Barclays, Boots, CMS, Deloitte, EDF Energy, Enterprise Rent A Car, Ernst & Young, Mars, HM Prisons(NOMS), RBS and Simmons & Simmons to win the award.

Using mainstream platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the scheme maintains year-round engagement with potential candidates, providing timely and relevant information on career paths and the application process. This includes the Career Inspiration Facebook page, which is used to enhance its pre and post application experience for candidates. The feature provides useful information about NHS career paths and enables candidates to engage with specially-appointed current trainees to find out what it’s like to work in the NHS.

Engagement on Facebook and within the Career Inspiration app has been growing at an impressive pace. Over the past year, the fan count has increased (without marketing spend) by 50%+ to 10,465 relevant fans.

Other social media activity includes live question and answer sessions on Twitter and Facebook, and live tweeting from the scheme’s events.

The scheme, which was also voted most popular in the country by students in last year’s national Guardian UK 300 list, also came in third for the evening’s ‘Grand Prix Award’ recognising the best overall strategic use of social media tools.

Senior programme lead, Rob Farace, said: “We are delighted to have won this award. The results for us on social media have been extremely positive and we know we are truly giving a personal experience to candidates, which is reflected in the quality of candidates we attract and the positive feedback they share on social networks.”

The multi award winning scheme, which has been running for more than 50 years, is a comprehensive training programme that aims to equip graduates with the expertise needed to become successful leaders in the NHS. Challenging work placements and educational components enable graduates to learn about the NHS and develop the competence required to lead the ongoing transformation of the service.
