Sally Scales

Sally joined the NHS Leadership Academy in January 2013 and is currently the Head of the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme, working with the team to attract, assess and develop our future NHS leaders. Prior to this she led NHS Executive Search, the NHS Board appointment service.  As well as overseeing the delivery of board level executive search projects she also established and led several national aspiring director talent schemes and played a key role in the development of national talent management initiatives and the establishment of the Regional Talent Boards. She has over fifteen years’ experience of board level recruitment and development, seven of which were gained within the commercial executive search industry.  

Her early career was spent working within HR and recruitment within a FTSE 100 company.  Sally holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Leeds and an MSc in Healthcare Leadership from the University of Birmingham. She is an ICF accredited coach and action learning set facilitator and is qualified to deliver a range of psychometric tools.  

Sally is driven by a desire to futureproof the NHS through developing compassionate and inclusive leaders who enable the delivery of health and care services. Supporting colleagues to be the best they can be and to lead fulfilling careers has been a focus of her career to date.  

In her spare time Sally is most often found hiking and making the most of living close to the Yorkshire Dales.
