The Aspiring Chair Talent programme is aimed at senior leaders who are energised to lead, and have the potential to lead, an organisation driving significant transformational change over the next five years, specifically an increasing emphasis on, and investment in, primary and secondary prevention underpinned by a substantial refocusing of the NHS on non-acute care; widespread adoption of digital technologies; a step change improvement in operational performance; a relentless focus on improving quality of care across all three domains; and a radically different workforce.
For the next cohort this will be specifically for non-executive directors currently working in provider NHS organisations and recently retired or soon to retire executives/chief executive officers, aspiring to a first-time chair role within a maximum of 12 to18 months from commencing the programme.
This programme is for you if you:
- you demonstrate the aspiration and potential to be a chair within the next 12-18 months maximum
- if you have extensive NHS provider board or equivalent senior leader level experience
- have chaired a sub-committee.
- can demonstrate understanding of complexity of the NHS
- have an ability to work with stakeholders within and across systems
- have had a talent conversation or will undertake a talent conversation to support the above and it is agreed by yourself and your chair collectively that you are suitable for participation in this programme. A suggested conversation approach would be Scope for Growth.
- part of the pre-application, and suitability conversation process, is for the individual and their chair to undertake a self assessment against the six board competency domains in the Leadership Competency Framework.
This programme is not aimed at those who have been recently appointed into a chair role
