About this Primary Care Intake
The Nye Bevan Programme has supported emerging senior leaders across the NHS for many years, helping participants build the confidence, behaviours and system‑leadership capabilities needed to work at a senior level. This primary care intake has been created in recognition of the vital role that PNC (Primary Care Networks) and neighbourhood‑based leadership now plays in improving population health and strengthening care closer to home.
As the NHS continues to focus on integration, prevention and more collaborative ways of working, there is a growing need for strong, system‑minded leaders within general practice and primary care. This intake offers targeted development for GP partners and PCN clinical directors, equipping them to lead meaningful change across neighbourhood teams and improve outcomes for local communities.
Once applicants eligibility has been confirmed, the process will consist of an application form and sponsor nomination. Sponsors may nominate up to two participants for this intake, ideally one GP Partner and one PCN director.
Role and Responsibilities
As a neighbourhood coach, you play an important part in supporting potential applicants through this primary care intake of the Nye Bevan programme. Your role includes helping individuals explore their readiness for the programme, offering guidance on what the commitment involves, and signposting them to the information and support they may need. You will also review expressions of interest from your neighbourhood and identify those who are best placed to progress to the next stage of the process.
Your involvement helps ensure applicants are well‑prepared, clear about expectations, and supported to put forward a strong and informed application.
Once you have a confirmed list of eligible applicants, you are responsible for forwarding their names and work email addresses to the Bevan team. This will enable us to send each applicant a direct link to the application form.

We will be hosting a drop in session for coaches ahead of the application window. This session will outline the purpose of this primary care cohort, walk through the application process, and provide clarity on your role in supporting and reviewing expressions of interest.

Key Dates
- June 1 – Deadline for eligible expressions of interest to be submitted by coaches to the Nye Bevan team
- June 1 to 26 – Application and career conversation window
- July 3 – Deadline for final nominations to be confirmed and submitted by sponsors to the Nye Bevan team
- Shortly after 3rd July – Applicants will be notified of confirmation of their place on the programme
